About CFNC
College for North Carolina (CFNC) is a free service of the State of North Carolina that helps students plan, apply, and pay for college. The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority is the primary sponsor in partnership with the NC Department of Public Instruction, the NC Community College System, the UNC System, the NC Independent Colleges and Universities, and College Foundation, Inc.
Pathways of North Carolina
Pathways, created by the NC General Assembly in 1999, is a state-wide initiative to increase the college-going rate of North Carolinians by providing: comprehensive college and career planning resources; electronic applications and transcripts accepted by most of the 110 North Carolina colleges and universities; and, information on student financial aid and college affordability. Pathways is administered by the UNC System.
NCSEAA
The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA) is the State agency that has been helping North Carolinians pay for education since 1965. NCSEAA administers financial aid and savings programs, helps students and families understand how to make paying for college more manageable, and provides resources for education professionals about financial aid.
College Foundation, Inc.
College Foundation, Inc. (CFI), a non-profit corporation serving North Carolina students and families since 1955, administers education loan programs, several major grant and scholarship programs funded by the State of North Carolina for students attending North Carolina colleges and universities, and the tax-advantaged "NC 529" college savings program on behalf of the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).

Merit scholarships at North Carolina colleges and universities
Davidson College
- Eligibility: High academic achievers with experiences that reflect a varied range of interests, talents and achievements and some scholarships require a nomination
- Amount: Up to full cost of attendance

Duke University
- Eligibility: All applicants are automatically considered for Duke merit scholarships by virtue of their admissions application

Elon University

- Eligibility: Applicants are automatically considered and must have impressive academic and extracurricular achievements and show promise of engagement in the life of the University

- Eligibility: Academic excellence, as demonstrated by a high grade point average/scores on the SAT or ACT, interest in or passion for an academic program, extracurricular engagement

- Eligibility: When you are accepted to both UNCW and the Honors College, you are automatically considered for competitive Honors College Merit Scholarships

SECU Foundation
High School Scholarship Program
- SECU Foundation established the People Helping People four-year scholarship program to help North Carolina public high school students attend college. Each of the 115 North Carolina Local Education Agencies (LEAs)/School Districts will receive a minimum of one scholarship valued at $10,000 payable at $1,250 per semester for up to eight consecutive semesters for a senior to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System.
- Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by the LEA Scholarship Selection Committee provided they meet all eligibility criteria. Scholarship recipient information must be submitted by the Scholarship Selection Committee at each LEA. No individual applications are reviewed by the Foundation.

Community College Scholarship Program
- The SECU Foundation established a major scholarship program to assist students in each of the fifty-eight community colleges in the North Carolina Community College System. There are 116 two-year scholarships valued at up to $5,000 each. Each North Carolina community college will receive two scholarships, representing an annual financial commitment to the entire North Carolina community college system of up to $580,000.
- Scholarship recipient information must be submitted by the Scholarship Selection Committee at each community college. No individual applications are reviewed by the Foundation.

Bridge to Career Program
- The SECU Bridge to Career program is currently available to all 58 North Carolina Community Colleges and helps remove financial barriers for students seeking state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials that lead to sustainable wage careers within their communities. SECU Bridge to Career provides funding for $500 scholarships, to be awarded to up to 30 eligible students at each of the 58 NC Community College campuses. The SECU Bridge to Career program has supported community college workforce development and continuing education students across North Carolina since 2018.
- SECU Bridge to Career Program focuses on assisting unemployed and underemployed adults, military veterans, and members of the National Guard with marketable job skills that lead to sustainable wage careers within their communities. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in a program that leads to a state-recognized or industry-supported credential, as identified by the NC Workforce Credentials Advisory Council.
